Mirthe Dokter
Bio
Mirthe Dokter (1992, Dutch artist based in Brussels) is a transdisciplinary artist working across performance, singing, visual arts and film. Since 2014, after graduating from ArtEZ Arnhem, she has been developing art projects that explore deeply human themes as well as non-human perspectives. She currently nurtures her work from her studio in Schaerbeek and her young family in Saint-Gilles. By bringing performance into scientific conferences, public spaces, care institutions, museums, film contexts and installations, she seeks to embody the invisible and add a metaphorical layer to reality.
Her previous works include Beyond the Sea (2024–ongoing), an installation and performance about sea turtles in West Africa and our relationship with the ocean; Het Volk der Introverten (2020–ongoing), a participatory visual work paying tribute to introversion in people and society, shown among others at Pianofabriek (2024); Ik Moed (2021–2024), a musical ceremony; and De Geharde Rug (2021, Ghana), an award-winning short documentary. Since 2024, Mirthe has been creating participatory art projects for the Park Poetik festival, working with and from local residents. In 2024 this took shape as Ta Trace, laat zien dat je er was, a work about visibility. In the summer of 2025, she will create Groene Vingers, which asks: what do plants reveal about ourselves and where we come from?
Mirthe performs as a singer in the vocal ensembles SWARA and Lassenne Vocale (Ivan Yohan). As founder of Pollif Projects, she collaborates with artist Tim Hammer on artistic fieldwork at the intersection of science and ecology. Pollif Projects partners with Wageningen University, Utrecht University and Pathways to Sustainability.
