Bio

Sabina Scarlat (RO/BE) is choreographer, performer, playwright and coordinator of Garage29, a creation and research studio for the performing arts in Brussels. She was born in Romania, where she studied ballet at the National Conservatory in Bucharest. She graduated in psychology from the ULB University of Brussels and worked for several years among renowned psychoanalysts. In 2010, she created Garage29, a laboratory for her growing reflections on the performing arts and invited many choreographers and performers to work in the studio. Over the years, she has developed the studio as a dynamic platform for emerging artists among whom she evolves.

As a choreographer, her first creation, Uniforme (2017), places the human in an environment reduced to its remains and ruins sculpted in the sand and in which two almost identical women choose to live happily. "Uniforme was awarded the prize for best scenography at the international festival Atelier de Baia Mare, Romania. In 2019, she begins Match 2 with Vilma Pitrinaite and DipaTe with Chloé Beillevaire. In 2020, she directs a second creation, Nothing Sexual, an elucidating trio on gender relations. In 2021, she will also perform in Encore by Gaia Saitta and Lisi Estaras, a dance-theater creation based on Anton Chekhov's The Cherry Orchard.
