Sharon Mercado Nogales
Bio
Sharon Mercado Nogales is a Bolivian choreographer, dancer, and researcher. Her artistic practice explores and re-signifies archives, practices, and materialities of music and dance from the Andes. Rooted in her family history, she creates performative worlds where memory and territory enter into dialogue with the present, developing collective processes and ephemeral experiences.
Since 2020, she has been researching Technocumbia and developing www.technocumbia.info, a digital archive dedicated to the research and exploration of the genre. In 2021, she co-founded cobracobra with kiana rezvani, a collective investigating geographical, political, and cultural parallels between Bolivia and Iran; and Moviendo Territorios with Eli Wewentxu, a platform supporting food sovereignty projects across Abya Yala through solidarity parties.
Her work has been presented internationally at festivals, museums, and institutions across Europe, Asia, and South America, including SAM (Singapore), Berlin Art Week, Próximamente Festival (Brussels), Theaterfestival Basel, Festival Ciudad Bailar (Madrid), Fondazione Merz (Turin), Le Alleanze dei Corpi (Milan), cuerposur (Chile), Silent Green, SAVVY Contemporary, DOCK11 and Uferstudios (Berlin), as well as the Museo Nacional de Arte and Centro Cultural de España (La Paz).
Sharon also shares her research through workshops, talks, and mentoring. She is currently an Artistic Research Fellow at the Cisneros Institute at The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA).
