International exchange residency in collaboration with HAUT in Copenhagen

guts spilled edges expands on Joana Öhlschläger’s choreographic practice of intuitive making in the tension field between the obvious and the surprising, the mundane action and Performing with a capital P. Blending dance, theatrical magic and text, Joana Öhlschläger and Lotta Beckers explore the emergence of scenes, characters and atmospheres as a feeling-based and feeling-generating way of working.

The residency builds on strategies for creating choreographic material and ruthless dramaturgy, in close correspondence with the concreteness of a room and its imaginary layers. The emphasis lies on solo-ing as a practice, and how its expression transforms when embodying protagonist, support act or landscape. Another focus is the use of different modes of text — both reflective and performative — and the question of how text can become one choreographic material among others, without dominating the space: full of meaning, and yet just another limb.

Through cycles of accumulation and collage, Joana Öhlschläger and Lotta Beckers will assemble a collection of choreographic material that seeks to make sense, first and foremost, through feeling — as a way to enhance and morph a sense of presence.
