The Contract

During her residency at workspacebrussels, Amina Szecsödy will develop live elements of The Contract, a new work spanning video, architectural intervention and performance. The project looks at how authority is sustained and undermined through the interlocking and co-dependant structures of body, language and collective belief.

Using text, song and choreographic scores, the work unpacks four different caricatures, exemplars of how societal authority is embodied, perverted, confused and rehearsed. These figures appear not simply as something elected from on high, but co-created between performer and audience, witness and accused, leader and follower, judge and judged, camera and subject.

The residency forms part of the development of The Contract, a video installation and series of live performances premiering in her solo exhibition at Project Arts Centre, Dublin, in February 2027. The four chapters developed at workspacebrussels will subsequently return as live activations in the gallery.
