Rainbow (video installation)
Rainbow is a project that questions identity and its multiple facets. During the last research phases this project has shown itself as multiple in its form. Four forms develop simultaneously containing the same building blocks and emerging from the same research material: The Rainbow Fountain, the Performance with live music, the Immersive installation and the Video installation.
The Rainbow (video installation) focuses on reflecting and refracting light and the deconstruction of the image (the whole) into multiple lines (reflections), constantly in movement.
The work is inspired by The Conference of the Birds by Persian poet Attar. In Attar’s work, the question of identity is resolved through love (through the otherness) and the birds stand symbolically for the soul. It is the conversation of our inner self. In the same way as rainbows are formed by the reflection, refraction and dispersion of sunlight by raindrops, we all are the result of an infinity of reflections or refractions of the encounters that we make during our life, and this from the beginning, with our first meeting – that with our family. Our identity is plural. There is no one and only point of view, although we are constantly confronted with a simplifying categorization (right and left, young and old, man and woman, etc.) It seems obvious, however, that we are complex human beings with different facets and layers that accumulate throughout our lives and that therefore we are several things at the same time.
