Work in Progress: Fake Astrology

You are warmly invited to the work-in-progress sharing of Fake Astrology on Tuesday September 8.

Fake Astrology is a long-term artistic project and choreographic study of artificial satellites in an artificial night. It includes formats such as satellite gazing and a Fake Astrology oracle deck—ritual technologies for disorientation.

Since the beginning of time, people have looked to the sky for orientation, developing maps, calendars, and systems of meaning-making based on celestial patterns. Stars long relied on for orientation and divination are obscured by the stronger lights of human made satellites. How is the ancient technology of astrology affected by artificial satellites? How do we read signs and interpret messages in a universe saturated with our own inscriptions? How do we update our cosmologies to hold a reality we continue to materially alter?

Gry Tingskog (they/them) designs darknesses and choreographs multi-sensory experiences to be perceived inside them, weaving together dance, textile sculpture, light, technology and programming. Gry thinks choreographically across various mediums and takes on different roles in different collaborations. Their works have been presented internationally in theaters, museums and galleries.
