Workspacebrussels supports research, experimentation and creation in the performing arts. Are you looking for studio space to develop your project? If so, you can apply for a residency at the bottom of this page. But first read below what workspacebrussels can (or cannot) do for your project.

For whom?

The residency programme is aimed at Belgian and international artists working within the performing arts in the broad sense of the word (dance, performance, theatre, and crossovers with other disciplines). We support both research, experimentation and creation. We do not offer residencies in disciplines such as music or visual arts.

What can workspacebrussels offer?

  • Studio space: once your project is selected, we search together for a suitable space in the requested period(s). Thanks to our partners, we have several weeks of studio space at different locations in the city every year. The calendar is different every month, so schedules are made according to availability. Check out the studios here.
  • Period: we offer residencies all year round, except between mid-July and mid-August (summer break) and during the Christmas holidays (winter break). A residency lasts between 1 and 3 weeks. Sometimes several residencies are possible per project.
  • Technical equipment: the studios are not technically equipped or supported. In some, we can provide basic technical equipment, such as a sound system, microphone or projector.
  • Overnight accommodation: we only offer overnight accommodation to artists or team members based abroad. Possibilities depend on availability in our guesthouse, where we have two bedrooms with two single beds each. A baby cot is available.
  • Budget: we provide a flat fee of €750 (VAT included) per selected project for travel expenses and lunch.
  • Sharing opportunity: if you wish, you can share your research, practice or work with the team and/or fellow residents at the end of your residency. This can also take the form of a (semi)public try-out.
  • Lunch: on Tuesdays, all residents working in the studios at that time are invited for a communal lunch.
  • Library: our library is open to all residents and is expanded based on their suggestions.

How to apply

To apply for a residency, we ask some questions about yourself and your artistic plan for the residency. All the questions can be found in the online application form at the bottom of this page. You can submit your application either in writing or via an audio or video recording. We will gladly read or listen to you in Dutch, French or English.

Proposals can be submitted from two months before the deadline. The application form will be made available here below at that time.

Twice a year, we read the submitted proposals together with an external jury. We select a maximum of about 15 projects per round. These are the deadlines for the upcoming rounds:

  • Apply by 1 April 2026 for a residency between January and July 2027 (selection announcement: end of June 2026).
  • Apply by 1 December 2026 for a residency between August and December 2027 (selection announcement: end of February 2027).

It is not possible to submit a round ‘too early’ as we will not have received our partners' planning at that time.

Selection

Proposals are selected by the workspacebrussels team and an artist or art worker who joins us as external jury. In the selection, we pay attention to the innovative or experimental character of the project, the diversity within the programme, and the feasibility of the proposal within the context of workspacebrussels.

All applicants will receive a reply. Unfortunately, due to the large number of applications, it is not possible to provide personal feedback if your project was not selected.

The resulsts of the application round with deadline on 1 November 2025, will be announced to all applicants on 9 February 2026.
