Samuel Baidoo
Bio
Samuel Baidoo (Belgium, 1992) obtained a master's degree in illustration and graphic design at Sint-Lucas in Antwerp and then studied dance at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp. As a dancer, they worked with Koen De Preter, Maud Le Pladec, Kopergietery, Agostina D'Alessandro, Maria Silva, Caroline D'Haese, Michiel Vandevelde, Nat Gras and Tuur Marinus. Currently, Samuel works as a performer for Nikima Jagudajev in Basically.
Since 2021, Samuel has been a mentor for the choreographic work of students in the 3rd Bachelor Dance at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp. In recent years, they coached Kin Collective for their research project Tracing Ancestral Spaces, Zoë Chungong for Exoticdoll04700, and is currently coaching Kaori Ishiguro for her research project Tenderness of the Stones.
Samuel is a member of the collective Hanafubuki, which creates artistic work for diverse audiences through collaborations. In recent years, Hanafubuki has grown into an organisation that creates performances for adults and children, in theatres and on location in Belgium and abroad.
In their individual artistic journey, Samuel made wijtwee//nosotrosdos with Hernan Mancebo Martinez for Nat Gras. STORMOPKOMST supported them with a development trajectory and presented two iterations of House for Tears at the festival in De Warande. grot-nest-tempel-huis, created for tout petit, premiered in February 2024. Meanwhile, they are working on Plum Road Tea Dream, a semi-autobiographical video game performance exploring the potential of virtual space as a sanctuary.
