Fully Automated Luxury Dancing
In FULLY AUTOMATED LUXURY DANCING, three chronically unemployed dancers who have never met each other take to the stage to deliver a lecture-performance about what it means to strive to make a career as a dancer in a sector plagued by a scarcity of jobs, and drowned in cases of choreographers abusing their power. They will deliver this performance by executing a series of instructions in the headphones they are wearing, becoming themselves robotic shadows of the dancers they really are. Wouldn't it be better, then, if this 'work' were outsourced to Artificial Intelligence capable of doing exactly the same thing as these dancers?
In this residency, Dan Mussett will explore the idea of a possible future in which dancers are replaced by AI. Would it be possible to completely automated dance and if so, what impact would such a scenario have upon our ideas of dance, creativity and work? What role could technology play in reshaping how dance performances are toured, if dance performances could be reduced to a series of commands a dancer would have to execute in real time?
