She Spells Sea Shells on the Shea Sore
She Spells Sea Shells on the Shea Sore is a solo performance by Júlia Rúbies Subirós exploring the Western feminised voice and the stories that have shaped how it is heard. Figures such as Sirens, Cassandra, Echo, Medusa, Ophelia and the hysterical woman surface alongside popular culture and lived experience through voice, movement, song and sound. Water runs through these figures as image and logic: fluid, seductive, unstable and threatening, evoking bodies and voices that refuse to remain contained. Rather than reconstructing their histories, the performance inhabits their contradictions, asking how inherited images still shape how a feminised body/voice is allowed to express and respond. Moving between control and overflow, attraction and violence, these voices keep resurfacing, impossible to fully drown.
