Deep Nyx
Deep Nyx takes the form of a fallen concert. To a continuous soundtrack of drums, acoustic textures, and distorted sounds, Nyx shifts between playing the drums and playing herself—becoming Prince, becoming a drumstick.
As the body moves between subject and object, she subjects herself to violence and abjection, sensation and sensuality. Striving for ecstasy through the constraints of self-production, every element of Deep Nyx is handmade—drums, dance, distortion. Using instruments and tools to amplify impact, she chases high intensity at all times, without ever arriving at a clear climax.
The work draws inspiration from Prince’s Baby I’m a Star, the sci-fi novels of Ursula K. Le Guin, and the writing of Luce Irigaray.
