The Chance to Find Yourself is a collaboration between two migrants from very different worlds. One is a German-speaking man from Tirol in northern Italy who has lived in Brussels for a few years; Benno Steinegger. The other, Jovial Mbenga, is from the Democratic Republic of Congo and lives in Brussels too.
They do not know each other but what they have in common is that they both came to Brussels to improve their living conditions. The two come from very different cultural and economic backgrounds, they do not share the same aesthetic tastes. Nevertheless, they both try to know more about each other, about themselves, and about each other's artistic practices, despite the void of ignorance and difference that separates them. All this will take place in the process of creating a common performance in the spirit of a free adaptation of the novel Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad.
All this is just a pretence. The aim of The Chance to Find Yourself does not consist in staging the Heart of Darkness, rather to stage what this encounter will produce: the process itself will become the heart of the performance.
