and we shimmered as we crossed from one reality to another (AfterMyth)
Dancing figures as haunting remnants of a world that has vanished
Projected across three silver screens, masked figures dance on a desolate, snow-covered beach, their cheerleading, navigational gestures, and pas de bourrées lingering as haunting remnants of a world that has long since vanished. Set in an unnamed, ambiguous future, the dance is both a reflection of lost time and a glimpse into a fragile present. Exploring the boundaries of in/visibility, this project looks at what lies beyond and behind the image, navigating between ‘here and there’ and ‘then and now.’
Inspired by Rita Lucarelli’s concept of ‘gate-scapes’—a term used to describe the numerous gates and guardians depicted in Ancient Egyptian funerary texts—Noha Ramadan creates a series of moving images and texts performed through the cinematic trope of a pop-horror dream sequence. As the dance continues on screen, other mysteries unfold in the darkened theater, inviting you into an eerie, poetic space.
